Warning – Lost Luxury: When Cruise Ships Take a Ferry Dive

Most cruise companies dedicate themselves to crafting ships that exude elegance and breathtaking beauty.

Some cruise companies have opted to design ships that bear a closer resemblance to ferries. This design choice is reflected not only in the layout of the vessels but also in the style of furniture and decor onboard.

These vessels, once synonymous with elegance and luxury, now feature venues more akin to those found on long distance ferries. This shift has left many passengers longing for the grandeur and sophistication that were once hallmarks of the cruising experience.

Gone are the days of opulent ballrooms and extravagant theaters.

Despite the lack of elegance, prices for these ferry-like cruises remain surprisingly high. Passengers are left to wonder whether they are truly getting value for their money, as they navigate through a sea of mediocrity and mundane experiences.

Compounding the issue is the prevalence of sea days on these voyages. With limited ports of call, passengers find themselves spending an inordinate amount of time at sea, further diminishing the appeal of these ferry-like cruises.

For instance, a typical 14-day itinerary may only include visits to five ports, leaving passengers longing for more immersive experiences ashore. This dearth of destinations leaves much to be desired for those seeking adventure and exploration.

In contrast, many ferries now offer the option to upgrade to a more cruise-like experience, blurring the lines between the two modes of travel.

A cruise should be more a wonderful experience.

It should be an immersive journey filled with luxury, sophistication, and unforgettable experiences. As the industry continues to evolve, it is imperative that cruise lines prioritize the restoration of elegance and refinement to ensure that the magic of cruising is preserved for generations to come.
